Pianist and Producer Minna Re Shin will present an experiential session at the 2026 edition of the Vanier College Humanities Symposium Thinking with Our Senses:
Revisiting and Reimagining Classical Music Performance: Reflections on the Relationship among Composer, Performer, and Audience
Through the comparison of two classical music presentation scenarios, pianist Minna Re Shin will help us to explore how the dynamic interplay among the composer, performer, and audience–along with the significant impact of “extramusical” elements of the performance–creates a collaborative sensory experience coloured by artistic and cultural context and shapes the overall musical experience and meaning. These shared, embodied processes of interactivity make each performance unique. To illustrate, this session will include live recital presentation of Marjan Mozetich’s Three Pieces for piano solo (1984) and the screening of excerpts from her acclaimed video Sonate Tableaux (2021) to observe work in progress..
All are welcome, and admission is free.
